Suffolk contains some of the J England, each a time capsule o comprising craftsmanship of from Saxon times to our own. Walks takes the reader to a broad the most interesting; some national others little known, but every one a gem

The 21 country walks vary between 2 - 6 miles and follow scenic footpaths, bridleways and river banks. Most include at least two churches and there is a separate section that highlights their outstanding features. The walker can explore such treasures as St Ethelbert's at Falkenham, with its noble 15th-century tower in flint and stone and its beautifully carved font - the decorations saved from Cromwell's Puritans by being plastered over. There is St John the Baptist's church in Lound, with its simple windows dating from 1300 and lighting an interior which is a blaze of colour. And St Edmund's at Southwold is one of East Anglia's grandest and most lavish churches, with its soaring arcades and a painted 15th-century rood screen that spans the church's entire width.

Each walk is carefully described and is accompanied by a sketch map of the route. Numbers are used, both against the walk instructions and on the map, to make path finding easier. There are also details on how to get to the start, where to park the car and where to go for refreshments.

Roy Tricker is an enthusiast and authority on ancient churches. He is a Field Officer with the Churches Conservation Trust and regularly lectures and guides tours to show people how fascinating English churches can be. John Pardy is a retired Headteacher. He enjoys walking in many areas of England and has a wide  knowledge of Suffolk's footpath network.
